Exciting News: Thea Home for A Beautiful Mess

For 19 years, I have been inspired by the very talented, Thea Segal.  Thea combines her sophisticated European sensibility with an artistic appreciation for color, particularly a muted palette style.

Thea’s renowned furniture and design have been featured in magazines such as Elle Decor, Town & Country and Hello. Thea’s home stores were also published in Los Angeles Magazine as having the “best furniture” in the “Best of L.A.” issue.

In addition to these marvelous publications, Thea was the winner of HGTV’s Designer’s Challenge and has been the designer for countless high profile properties, including Charlie Chaplin’s 1920s home, Actor, Forrest and Keisha Whitaker’s house, Producer, Cathy Konrad and James Mangold’s residence as well as the President of Northwestern University’s house in Evanston, IL.

Together, Thea and I have collaborated to create an exclusive line of furniture that prides itself on its simple interpretation of updated historic European pieces with a Swedish palette.  The marked difference behind prized antiques and this new line is not only its functionality, but also the fact that the pieces are handcrafted by local artisans with the best materials.

Together, we have created a luxury furniture line that would steal the attention in anyone’s home; available exclusively online and in store through A Beautiful Mess.

Her Hands

 mothers day collage

Her hands held me gently from the day I took my first breath.

Her hands helped to guide me as I took my first step.

Her hands held me close when the tears would start to fall.

Her hands were quick to show me that she would take care of it all.

Her hands were there to brush my hair, or straighten a wayward bow.

Her hands were often there to comfort the hurts that didn’t always show.

Her hands helped hold the stars in place, and encouraged me to reach.

Her hands would clap and cheer and praise when I captured them at length.

Her hands would also push me, though not down or in harms way.

Her hands would punctuate the words, just do what I say.

Her hands sometimes had to discipline, to help bend this young tree.

Her hands would shape and mold me into all she knew I could be.

Her hands are now twisting with age and years of work,

Her hand now needs my gentle touch to rub away the hurt.

Her hands are more beautiful than anything can be.

Her hands are the reason I am me.

Friends Don’t Let Friends Shop at Chain Stores!

A few months back, my adoring family and I shot a short video for Restylesource about how our lives changed when the store first opened.  Having my own store has proved to be more challenging than I thought, but I never shy away from a challenge; luckily neither does my amazing family!  The video explains how it truly takes a village, or in this case a strong family unit, to operate a successful small business.

Watch the video here

Without the love and encouragement from my beautiful three girls and wonderful husband, Geoff, I would never be able to call A Beautiful Mess my own.  Chain stores are great because everyone knows what to expect when they walk through the door, at A Beautiful Mess the same rule holds true.  Just because it is not nationally branded, does not mean  the same (sometimes more) time, thought and hard work is put into making your experience at A Beautiful Mess, a special one.  I encourage all of you to take a break from the chain store catalogs that are left in your mailbox and take a stroll into the family- centered small businesses that grace your zip code.

Have a fantastic rest of your night! xo

Spring Forward

Spring has sprung, Easter is right around the corner and the kids are home on spring break, in other words: LIFE IS GOOD.

However, springtime brings an alternative agenda, called spring cleaning… Best of luck to those of you who are going to dedicate your precious time off to purge the old and start anew.

Besides the fact my children are home for the next 10 days, my favorite part about Spring is the refreshing feeling of a new beginning, a fresh start.  Spring, to me, is almost like being in elementary school and getting asked what I wanted to be when I grew up.  The possibilities were endless!  I could be whatever and whoever I wanted to… what a riveting feeling that was.

In spring, we can all “turn a new leaf” and start fresh.  We can decide to stay more organized, eat healthier, enjoy the longer days, or even count our abundant blessings this life has given us.  So, in a way, spring is like your fifth grade teacher asking you what you will decide to be.  I ask all of my fellow bloggers, what will YOU decide to do to refresh and revive your life this wonderful spring season?

Whatever you decide to do, make sure to lay happiness down as your foundation.  Hug your kids, kiss your loved ones and spring forward to all of the new beginnings this season has to offer us!

XO Kymberley

A Day Full of Blessings

Wherever you may be today and how you got there is not as important as why. My husband and I have been talking quite a bit with our daughters about what we are thankful for this Thanksgiving. All three of them agree it is being together with family.

We are very fortunate our families are healthy and enjoy being together. We all have very busy lives so we should be grateful for this day which allows us the time to gather and celebrate.

It is much harder for those serving in our military to be separated from their loved ones, as my husband and I were when he was deployed with the Marines. So please remember those who are serving and their families as you gather with yours.

Our daughters recently “volunteered” for a photo shoot at our local walnut grove and pumpkin patch, for REstylesource and photographed by Dustylu

I have had so much fun these past few weeks talking with customers and friends about their traditions. Whether yours is catching a plane to a warm beach, staying at home, or driving your family crazy with that long drive to Gramma’s house; where your children get asked the same questions every year by that certain aunt or uncle, it is special to be with family. Our Thanksgiving morning is usually spent in our pj’s laughing, watching some of the Macy’s Parade and preparing whatever dishes we are bringing to my Mom’s.

After we’ve filled our bellies we take our girls to the movies to see a new Holiday movie

We are so very thankful to have met so many wonderful people in our store and through social media. I am blessed with my amazing Beautiful Mess staff and the terrific relationships built over these past two years.

Today is a great time to remember how our friends and family have blessed us, make some new memories and remind those we love why they are important to us.

Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours!

Fall Into A Beautiful Mess

It’s that time of year again, temperatures dropping (well sort of), leaves changing their colors and families getting into the glorious spirit of the holiday festivities. One specific event that has A Beautiful Mess overflowing with joy is our 2 year anniversary, a very Happy Birthday to us!

Make sure to mark your calendars for Friday, December 7th in honor of our annual Holiday Party and Celebration of A Beautiful Mess turning 2.

The store is filled to the brim with new treasures, and we are excitedly awaiting the arrival of more and more items to add their unique je ne sais qua to our store, so make sure to stop by sometime soon!

Have a wonderful rest of your weekend and we hope to see you in the near future.

We’re “Live!”

To say the past three months of my life have been a whirlwind would be a major understatement!  I was blessed with success at the Remnants of the Past antique show in San Luis Obispo, a week later my eldest daughter graduated from high school and a seemingly “short” two weeks after that I turned the big 4-0.  It has been busy to say the least, but I wouldn’t trade these past three months for anything. (except for more sleep:) Life has a peculiar way of presenting its challenges and opportunities to us, sometimes we think the direction our path is taking us is the only one to follow, but really our paths can twist, turn, and sometimes even collide with another leading us to new experiences and adventures we would have never encountered otherwise.

I am so fortunate to have friends, family and customers who continue to support my store even though they live in different cities, states and countries. I am more than elated to announce the launch of our online store and our new blog for all of you who wish to visit A Beautiful Mess day or night.

I am extremely grateful to my assistant Sami, my wonderful photographer Dustylu and my web designer Avalon Rose for making my vision a virtual wonderland! To my unbelievably dedicated and hard working staff thank you for taking on all the extra responsibilities. To my husband Geoff and my 3 girls, thank you for not putting up “Missing Person” posters of me.

Have a great weekend and thank you for joining me on my journey!

The “Brielle” handbag by Kymberley Fraser

I have been dreaming and mentally creating a 3 Fine Grains Couture handbag for many years. My dreams have become reality and next week at The Remnants of the Past Show I will start selling my very first Couture handbag… The Brielle.  Named after my first born and created with Brielle’s day to day style in mind.  Thrown across the body during the day and carried as a Clutch in the evening for those more fashionable outings; The Brielle is the perfect accessory for any style.
The Brielle is created using my signature line of Original Antique German grain sacks.  Black satin lines the inside with a zippered pocket for your valuables or if you’re like me… your lip gloss.  Aged brass hooks and clips paired with vintage finished leather, compliment the rustic yet refined style of this bag.  Each bag is guaranteed, “one of a kind” and adorned with antique English horse brass from the Queens coronation dating back from the 1800′s.
Thank you Amy,  for walking the runway modeling “Brielle”
I’m beyond excited to share this dream come true with all of you and I look forward to seeing you accessorize with my new line… “Kymberley Fraser” Designs.
After the show you’ll be able to find my pieces in my store A Beautiful Mess
and online… coming very soon!
( more on that in my next post )

To my Mom on Mother’s Day

To my beautiful Mom…
A day without you in my life would be a day without sunshine.  You’ve been my strength when I’ve been weak.  You’ve held me up when I’ve had trouble standing tall.  You’ve stood tall and proud beside me every step of the way through my life.
My dear Mom, I cherish you.  You’re not just my Mom… You’re my best friend.
I thank God daily for the love you’ve given me and for blessing my life as your Daughter.  You’ve made me the person I am today…  The Mother, the Daughter, the Grandaughter, the Wife and the Business Woman…  It’s all because of you.  You often tell people that my creativity comes from somewhere else and not from you… you’re wrong.  My creativity comes from you. You showing me how to love and appreciate all that surrounds me and through that I’ve created from the heart.
I only can hope that when my girls are all grown that they can look at me with the same admiration, appreciation and love that I have for you.
Happy Mother’s Day Mom!
To all my friends and followers wishing you a very Happy Mother’s Day as well.
I hope you enjoy your day with your loved ones.
